Motor Sizing Based on Load Point
Do not size the motor based on the pump or fan's maximum power point. Instead, find the **normal operating point** on the performance curve (where the system curve intersects the pump/fan curve). The motor power should be 10-15% above the power required at this point. Provide the motor supplier with the load's torque-speed curve or the required power at the operating speed for accurate selection.
Enclosure and Environmental Selection
For **indoor, clean air** applications, an Open Drip Proof (ODP, IP23) motor may suffice and offers better cooling. For **dusty, dirty, or outdoor** locations, a Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC, IP55) motor is mandatory. For **high ambient temperatures** or **very dirty conditions**, consider a TEFC with an external blower (IC416) or a Closed Air Circuit Air-Air (CACA, IC611) cooler. For **submersible** pumps, only IP68 motors are suitable.

Vertical Pump Motor Engineering
We specialize in designing and manufacturing vertical pump motors. Provide us with the pump thrust load (downward and upward if applicable), mounting interface drawing, shaft size, and desired motor performance. We will engineer a motor with the correct thrust bearing, suitable flange, and shaft configuration. We can also supply the motor with a custom drip cover or space heater as needed.
Pump/Fan System Efficiency Audit
